Pompe patient finally going home after breakthrough procedure
UF surgeons Dr. Richard Lottenberg and Dr. Saleem Islam, in collaboration with UF pediatric cardiologist Dr. Barry Byrne,implanted a diaphragm pacemaker this summer, which prompts the chest muscles and nerves to constrict and expand so Stanzione can breathe for hours at a time without the ventilator.
